Premier prints

You can work one to one on screen with our skilled printers to adjust your image to your requirements. They’ll talk through your ideas with you so they fully understand what you’re looking for from your final print. When you are happy with what you see on screen, they’ll produce test strips or a test print so you can make any corrections before the final print. Test prints are included with this service, as well as some operator time to optimise your images. This service includes our free Limited Edition printing service, where once your master image files have been printed and approved, we hold edition files on our server, which are backed up on tape. We can control the edition series for you and supply prints with provenance certificates. Edition prints can be ordered at any time which will match your original approved print. Prints larger than 24x20in require a scan.

Limited Edition Service

Several specialist printing services at Metro including Premier Lambda Prints, Black and White Lambda prints, Giclée and Pigment prints offer the free additional add-on of Limited Edition Printing service, which must be arranged in advance with Metro staff. Limited Editions are reprints from master digital files that have been archived by our printers on our server. You can order Edition prints at any time after the Master has been archived and we will retrieve the file and make an exact copy of the original. Limited Editions are reprints of a master up to a number specified by the artist. Many artists keep track of their own Editions, but to make matters easier, our Limited Edition service includes a tracking system where we keep a record of your Edition prints. Each Edition print is also accompanied by a Provenance certificate to authenticate its origin.

Lambda C type prints

Prints will be colour balanced and corrected to your brief. We can produce test prints for you to view at half price. Operator work time in addition to printing is £25 per quarter hour. Prints larger than 24x20in require a scan.

Hand optical prints

Hand prints from any size of film negative are individually printed in the darkroom by our skilled master printers, who’ll use their expertise to make the best possible print to your specifications.
With colour hand prints as well as cropping and shading, if necessary our printers will ‘pre-flash’ print – exposing the paper briefly to a white light to sensitize it before the main exposure of the negative. This gives better separation in the shadows, reduces contrast and can add tones to the highlight areas.
