File Info

Not all our services require a high level of computer skill and colour management on the part of our customers. But, if you would like to use the services below, the following guidelines will help you to create a seamless file management process that will make both your and our lives a great deal easier. In addition, we‘d strongly recommend that you read our Colour management directions. Please note: for all our services except Kiosk and Online prints you need not worry about colour management or file formatting as these services are all part of the package.

Remember – if you are not confident about the processes below, please contact our knowledgeable staff for help and advice.

Scanning originals

If you're not working directly from digital data you'll need to scan your image. As you probably know, all scanners are not created equal, so obviously we'd recommend using Metro's professional quality medium and high resolution scanning services to start you on the right track.

Here's a short table to help you work out which resolution you need for your image scan:
Application: Resolution:
Web Design 72 dpi
Giclée Printing 300 dpi
Digital C-Type Print (up to 24 x 20) 254 dpi
Digital C-Type Print (larger than 24 x 20) 200 dpi

Saving your file

We accept most image file types. We cannot work from Vector or Postscript files. Crop your file, add any borders you require and save your file at 200/254 dpi as RGB JPEG/TIFF.

Saving in this format rasterizes the image, converting it to pixels ready for printing.

Supplying your image to Metro

When supplying an image on a disc, please save the image file within a folder named as the service, material and print size in inches, e.g. “lambdagloss10x8”, especially when supplying several images to be output to different bases at different sizes.

Please avoid unrecognised characters in filenames or folder names. Make sure you save the correct file extension on your images, for example, .tiff.

On receipt of your image file, we will install the correct printer profile and individually colour manage the print outcome to match the image file as exactly as possible.

We are happy to help you with the preparation of your files for print, but we can’t accept responsibility for the colour management of your personal computer. We strongly recommend that you follow the stages outlined in our Colour Management Directions to get the best possible results every time.

Uploader Tool

Our Uploader Tool is a brilliant way of sending us files without worrying about shaky FTP connections, or jamming up your email account. (We’re really interested to hear what you think of this service. Any feedback would be much appreciated)
