Metro Imaging have worked closely with Stuart Weston on his new exhibition ‘Altered States’; a collection of images portraying ‘Astral Projection’ as experienced by a range of people during times of anxiety or stress, or even for no apparent reason.
Stuart’s work explores these out-of-body experiences through several medias. His first step is to shoot the subject on his Hasselblad HD3 and then uses this image as a reference to paint onto canvas using acrylics with a pallet knife; he then again shoots this and brings all elements together in post-production to produce these striking images.
Metro Imaging worked with Stuart to produce this fascinating mix of organic materials and digital together in the form of thirty three C Type prints mounted onto aluminum with subframes and one reverse perspex mount with a subframe; which were then installed by Metro at The Worx Studios, London.
Stuart says: ‘my aim is to explore this subject through a series of images, provoke dialog and share something inexplicable and wonderful with the viewer. Those who endure the experience often describe the events as disturbing, beautiful, enlightening, sometimes fun but always unfathomable.’
This fascinating set of work captures the essence of this perfectly in an other-worldly renaissance style, were the lines of reality and subconscious merge together and separate again, echoed in Stuart's mix of paint and photography, into an almost biblical imagery.
