Metro is thrilled to be producing prints for Sadler’s Wells, the UK’s leading contemporary dance house based in Islington, London. It is the UK’s leading contemporary dance house, dedicated to presenting and commissioning the very best of international and UK dance to audiences in the capital and on tour.
The visual arts project ‘Sadler’s Wells’ Associate Artists’ Portraits’ celebrates both the 15th anniversary of today’s theatre and the crucial role that the Associate Artists have played in the theatre’s success. The Associate Artists represent some of today’s leading choreographers, dancers, lighting designers, musicians and composers. Between them, their dedication and contribution to the art form help to keep dance pushing at its creative boundaries and engaging audiences worldwide.
Alastair Spalding CBE, Artistic Director and Chief Executive at Sadler’s Wells explains, “For me it is incredibly important that Sadler’s Wells has artists working and creating new work in it. It changes the feel of the place. The first Associates were appointed in 2005 and coincidently, on our 15th anniversary, there are 15 Associate Artists so it seemed the perfect way to celebrate.”
The exhibition features a portrait of each Associate, taken by a photographer of his or her own choice. The black and white fibre based prints
portraits all produced and framed
by Metro will be on display in the theatre until April and will allow the public to develop a deeper insight into the people who bring the stage to life, capturing an essence of their character, their relationship with the photographer and their ideas and thoughts.
