Julie Henry & Debbie Bragg at the Garden Museum
April 2010

Rushmoor in Bloom

The Garden Museum, Lambeth Palace Road, London
8th March to 11th April 2010

Julie Henry and Debbie Bragg have been working together for 17 years and for this exhibition at the Garden Museum, Metro worked together with Julie and Debbie to produce Premier Giclee prints for the exhibition currently on show at the Garden Museum, London.

Julie and Debbie are renowned for work which highlights people who achieve great things in small unseen ways and this exhibition continues in the same vein focusing on an annual front garden competition held in the Borough of Rushmoor, Hampshire.

“When we took portraits of the competitors and their gardens, we were amazed by the creativity and resourcefulness of the gardens on display. Moreover, we were fascinated by the dynamic between public and private acts of creativity. On the one hand, the gardens felt intimate and personal, whilst at the same time they were in full view of the public, in the front of people’s houses.

In some cases these acts of remarkable floral artistry were achieved with very modest financial means and in garden spaces that were limited in size. In fact, it would seem that the term ‘garden’ could apply to almost anything, from tiny balconies to neglected patches of grass at the edge of the road. We discovered that despite monetary and spatial constraints, people still look for ways to find an aesthetic.”

The Garden Museum is open Sunday to Friday, 10.30am – 5:00pm? Saturdays 10am - 4pm. Closed on the first Monday of every month.
