Haiti 12:01:10 at the Old Truman Brewery
February 2010

An exhibition of photographs in aid of the DEC Haiti Earthquake Appeal by David Levene

Dray Walk Gallery, The Old Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, E1 6QL
16– 21 February, 2010

Metro were proud sponsors of this important exhibition by Guardian photographer, David Levene. This fund raising exhibition showed a selection of shocking yet incredible images and films of the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

David spent a week in Port-au-Prince documenting the horrific human cost of the earthquake that struck on 12th January; needless to say some of the resulting images are often graphic and disturbing. David Levene said: “The sense of hopelessness when I visited Haiti after the earthquake was overwhelming. When I left Haiti I was trying to think about what I could do to raise as much awareness of the situation as possible, and it was then that I came up with the idea for the exhibition. I’ve had a great response, with many organisations pitching in to help.”

David signed a limited number of these prints taken both this year and during an earlier Haiti assignment in 2008 which were sold at the gallery. The night was a huge success, raising over £4,000 for the cause, which goes to show how much one person can make a big difference.
