Whilst assisting the National Geographic in Egypt, Karina Al Piaro, a British born photojournalist & visual artist witnessed the Arab Spring (also known as the Arab Revolution). Her experiences triggered a deeper perception of the power of the photographic image in terms of raising awareness and utilising the image as a voice. As a result Karina, who is based in North Africa on a permanent basis, together with a collective of Anglo French Arab photojournalists developed Fondation Monde Perdu, meaning literally Foundation of the Lost World. This a non-profit organisation dedicated to increasing positive awareness of human and heritage rights in the Nile Basin Territories though multi media platforms.
"Nile in the Blood" is the inaugural Exhibition launching the foundation and beginning an International Exposition Tour in the Nile region in late December 2012/early 2013. Metro is thrilled to be involved in this project, producing all the prints through our unique silver gelatin
digital processing service, which Karina feels directly reflects the craft & heritage of photographic image making, a process which was pioneered on the Nile in the 1850’s.
Additionally the Foundation has made great use of our web-based print sales plug-in
, at no extra cost. Their ‘Donate’ page offers a selection of Limited Edition prints with a percentage of the sales going directly to heritage projects on the Nile, which we at Metro then produce and ship on their behalf.
