Metro support Nadav Kander - Road to 2012 at the National Portrait Gallery

23 July 2012
Metro have worked closely with renowned photographer Nadav Kander for many years and this Olympic year has been no exception when we have been thrilled to work with Kander to produce his prints for the ‘Road to 2012’ exhibition which opened at the National Portrait Gallery this week.

We produced Black and White fibre prints in which Kander features four talented young athletes Jodie Williams, Jade Jones, Jon Allen-Butterworth and Lawrence Okoye, in the ‘Rising Stars’ series. In these images he has referenced the iconic black and white portraits of the 1940’s and 1950’s, using dramatic lighting as well as a clever play of highlights and dense rich shadows.

Along with these portraits we also produced life-size images using our Lambda printer of eight Olympic torchbearers which Kander shot as part of the ‘Torch Bearers’ series. These images depict ten of the 8000 inspirational individuals chosen from across the UK to carry the Olympic flame. In these images the subjects appear to float above the ground alluding to their inspiring stories and the transforming experience of running with the torch.

The exhibition is open for the entire period of the Olympic Games and can be visited until the 23rd September.

For more information on the exhibition please click here and take a look at a video of the exhibition opening by The Duchess of Cambridge where Kander’s work can clearly be seen.

National Portrait Gallery, St Martin’s Place, London, WC2H 0HE
