Metro has been involved in working with artists for many years printing their entries for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize and 2012 has been no exception.
From the hundreds of images we printed we are exceptionally proud that Eamonn McCabe
’s portrait of Sarah Lucas, which he shot for The Guardian was chosen as one of the final sixty and Jordi Ruiz Cirera
is in the shortlisted final four for his portrait of Maria Teichroeb, from his project about the Bolivian Mennonitesa.
The highly acclaimed prize showcases work of talented young photographers, gifted amateurs and photography students alongside that of established professionals. Judging each image on it’s own merit, there are no categories simply a ‘Portrait’ which can be interpreted in its widest sense.
This year over 2,350 photographers from around the world made 5,340 submissions, with sixty images selected for the exhibition and the accompanying catalogue. From these sixty, four shortlisted images are then chosen. The winner of the overall prize and £12,000 along with the winner of first John Kobal New Work Award (for a photographer under the age of 30) will be announced at the prize giving at the 5th November.
Congratulations to both Eamonn and Jordi and we wish Jordi the very best of luck on the 5th November, we shall keep you posted on his success.
