Metro is very pleased to have been working with New Zealand born artist Miriam Douglas producing duratrans
mounted prints for her first solo show which is showing at the Waterline Gallery on the 21st September.
Miriam, inspired by the work of the Pre-Raphaelites, explores the romance of tragic beauty and echoes the intense colours and complex compositions of 15th century Italian and Flemish art. In doing so she has produced Sub Rosa (under the rose) a triptych and Escape from the Erl King, a diptych. Both consist of multi-layered and merged images, which urge the viewer to take a deeper look and explore the images in an attempt to discover the silence and secrecy that live inside.
All the images are presented as lightboxes, some hand-gilded using 24 ct. gold; others in contrastingly austere black wooden frames.
