Metro is proud to be supporting a landmark exhibition by the Honorary Royal Academician and Chinese contemporary artist Ai Weiwei at the Royal Academy of Arts in London this autumn, producing a number of reverse Perspex C Type gloss prints
, which were then hung inside frames.
The exhibition, the first major survey of Ai Weiwei’s work ever held in the UK will bridge more than two decades of his extraordinary career and includes a collection of his major works alongside those never before seen.
Curated by the Royal Academy in collaboration with Ai Weiwei from his studio in Beijing the exhibition features large-scale installations and interventions specifically created for the Royal Academy space. Working in a variety of different contexts, scales and media, his ideas are conveyed in wood, porcelain, marble or jade. Some pieces included in the show have taken months to create and pass through lengthy periods of experimentation, pushing the boundaries of the formal qualities of many materials.
Ai Weiwei says of the exhibition, “I’m honoured to have the chance to exhibit at the Royal Academy of Arts. Tim Marlow and the rest of the exhibition team have a history of producing outstanding exhibitions. I’m very happy to be a part of it. This exhibition is my first major survey in London, a city I greatly admire. The selected artworks reflect my practice in recent years, and also include new works made specifically for this show.”
