The first week of December has seen a busy week as Metro helped in the judging for two of our Metro Imaging mentorship prizes.
At Calvert 22 we were delighted to award the Metro Imaging/New East Photo Prize Mentorship 2016
to Lana Stojićević
Lana has participated in many group and solo exhibitions in her native Croatia, her Black Hill entry to the New East Photography Prize focused on the complex connection between a landscape and its people. In 2010, nearly 200,000 tons of industrial waste was deposited in the village where Lana shot her series. Her subjects wear a traditional costume, devised by Stojićević, adapted from the usual vibrant coloured local embroidery to tones of black and grey to match their new landscape.
Ugly Duck galleries hosted ‘three fold’ the LCC MA Photography Final exhibition
, where Metro’s Kate O’Neill, photographer Robbie Symonette and Alessandra Rinaudo (MAP14 alumna) awarded Davide Menghello
the Metro/LCC MA Photography Mentorship 2016.
In his work entitled ‘Again He Holds Me by the Hand’ Davide Meneghello questions the ideological nature of the photographic archive to unveil intimacy in the homosocial space by appropriating historical visualisations. He re-contextualises traces and fragments from these documents in order to shift the reading of their indexically inscribed message and reveal what was once hidden.
Both winners receive a bespoke 12-month mentorship tailored to their personal needs receiving professional guidance, industry information and support from the experts at Metro Imaging plus £1,000 credit to spend on Metro Imaging services.
