Scottish photographer and filmmaker Wendy McMurdo has a new major solo exhibition opening in Glasgow later this month. ‘Digital Play’ is a collection of her works spanning the period from 1995 to 2012.
McMurdo’s work focuses on the relationship between technology and identity expressed through the images and ideas of childhood, looking at the psychological world of children and young people, both as a protected space and, increasingly, as a ground for marketing wars and a prematurely forced adulthood.
Metro is delighted to have produced a number of large-scale C Type prints
for the show which opens at Street Level Photoworks
, including a series entitled ‘The Skater’ as well as key works from her ground-breaking project ‘In a Shaded Place’ which are exhibited alongside ‘The Loop’, a film made in conjunction with Paul Holmes in 2009.
The exhibition forms part of ‘Generation’, a major, nationwide programme showcasing some of the best and most significant artists to have emerged from Scotland over the last 25 years. It shows the generation of ideas, of experiences, and of worldclass art on an unparalleled scale by over 100 artists in more than 60 venues, and is part of Culture 2014, the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme
Two limited edition prints have been produced to accompany this exhibition which can be purchased from the gallery during the run of the show or direct from Wendy McMurdo’s website
