Metro is this year supporting the annual Payback scheme run by DACS (The Design and Artists Copyright Society). The scheme seeks to distribute the money owed to visual artists by various collective licensing schemes. So if you think your visual work might have been used in UK books, magazines or broadcast on TV, it’s definitely worth a look.
Apply within the first month of Payback launching (July 2014) and all entrants will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win a £250 credit from us at Metro Imaging, as well as vouchers from Jackson’s Art Supplies.
Established by artists for artists, DACS is a not-for-profit visual artists’ rights management organisation. Passionate about transforming the financial landscape for visual artists through innovative new products and services, DACS acts as trusted broker for 80,000 artists worldwide. Founded over 30 years ago, DACS is a flagship organisation that has and continues to campaign for artists’ rights, championing their sustained and vital contribution to the creative economy.
Every year DACS negotiate a share of royalties which are paid to eligible artists who sign up to the scheme - in 2013 the average payment was over £258. All kinds of visual artists benefit from Payback including photographers, fine artists, illustrators, sculptors and cartoonists to name just a few.
As well as the first prize of £250 Metro Imaging credit to spend on photographic printing and framing
there are also two runners-up prizes each receiving £100 voucher to spend at Jackson’s Art Supplies
To be in with a chance of winning, all you need to do is submit your Payback form online by 5pm on Monday 4th August 2014.
