Cork Photo Festival 2016 supported by Metro Imaging

28 June 2016
We are delighted to be partnering Cork Photo Festival 2016 - an artist led celebration of photography promoting the development of contemporary photographic practice in and around Cork, on Ireland’s southwest coast.

The festival kicks off on 1st July with the opening of Melba and the Natives, a multidisciplinary exhibition by Derek Foott at Cork Festival HQ Following on thereafter are events, informal talks, professional development debates and exhibitions including The Meteorite Hunter by Alexandra Lethbridge’s (previous winner of the Metro Imaging Mentorship award and past exhibitor at Brighton Photo Fringe) the work will be on show at Blackrock Castle.

Metro Imaging's Director Steve Macleod is greatly involved in the festival hosting a professional development talk “Fear of Failure” on Thursday 28th July. With over thirty  years of personal and professional experience of the industry the talk is aimed at anyone from the creative community who has ever felt doubt in their career and questioned their practise. He will cover how fear of failure can stunt creativity, experimenting for progress and taking positives from your mistakes.

Steve is also hosting Negative Thoughts: Darkroom Workshop on 29th July, a one day workshop set up to dispel some myths about B&W printing. Steve will lead the attendees through the process of making test prints and final work prints in a way that is economical, creative and rewarding. As a Master B&W printer he has worked with many of the world's greatest photographers and artists. He has pioneered many darkroom printing processes, published several books on the subject and in conjunction with Ilford was responsible for bringing the world's first silver gelatin paper receptive to digital imaging technology into the market. The workshop will be a rare opportunity to work with him as he focusses on improving darkroom skills.

Metro is also awarding the Panel Choice Award 2016 with judges Fiona Kearney, Roseanne Lynch and Padraig Murphy selecting one overall winner and one runner up in recognition of their contribution to this year’s festival.  We are awarding incredible prizes including a 12-month tailored Metro Imaging Mentorship, plus £1000.00 credit to spend on Metro Imaging services; 1 hour consultation with one of our Master Printers and a set of twelve 12”x8” C-type portfolio prints which will be produced after your session; 7 day takeover of the @metroimaging Instagram account and for the first time this year the winner’s works will tour with Cork Festival partners Brighton Photo Fringe in October of this year.
All events will take place in and around Cork, Ireland.
Festival dates: 1st – 30th July 2016
